Welcome Spaces project

Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing is delighted to share the news that we have successfully applied for a funding award for a new Welcome Spaces project.

This grant is from Quartet Community Foundation as part of their Bristol One City funding for Social Action Small Grants.

There are many ‘welcome spaces’, or ‘warm spaces’, around Bristol. These are where organisations, and places like community centres and libraries, have opened their doors to provide a welcome, warm, and safe space for people who may be struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis.

CfD’s project aims to improve access for Deaf and hard of hearing people to welcoming spaces. We will do this by:

• providing training for staff/volunteers from the welcoming spaces,
• developing a self-audit tool to enable welcome spaces to assess accessibility for Deaf and hard of hearing people,
• working with a few partners to provide focused one-to-one support on how to improve accessibility,
• delivering CfD pop-up sessions at five welcome spaces – specifically for Deaf and hard of hearing people to get advice, information, and support
