Household Support Fund – Feeding Bristol

Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People is proud to receive funding from Bristol City Council’s Household Support Fund.  This fund is being distributed by Feeding Bristol; a local charity that focuses on tackling food inequality amongst marginalised groups.

CfD will be using this funding towards setting up a series of workshops and information sessions with British Sign Language (BSL) and live captioning to ensure full participation for all Deaf and hard of hearing people.  These workshops aim to promote greater understanding on the benefits of a healthy food culture and related topics surrounding this theme, such as how to reduce waste, how to cook for one person, and budgeting.  These workshops will feature well-known Deaf personalities who work in the food industry and who will share their experience and knowledge to empower Deaf and hard of hearing people to make informed decisions about their food and diet.

We will be working with a variety of local deaf and hard of hearing groups to organise workshops and information sessions.  These groups are:

  • Residents of a local supported housing scheme with deaf and deafblind tenants
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Women’s Group
  • Bristol Deaf 50+ Group
  • Hard of Hearing people
  • City of Bristol College students

CfD is grateful for receiving this funding from Feeding Bristol to enable us to create these very worthwhile and exciting events for people who would otherwise struggle to access this type of information.

…I was very satisfied with the service. The two staff were professional and easy to communicate with. They were able to explain everything clearly and quickly gave me the replacement equipment.

Two exceptionally pleasant and helpful people – a pleasure to meet and my new doorbell is a great help. Thank you very much.
