Living with Hearing Loss Event 2025

Living with Hearing Loss Event

An afternoon of connection, advice, and practical support

“One in three adults in the UK are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.”
Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), 2025

At the Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People (CfD), we believe that hearing loss should never mean isolation. Our mission is to create fair access, improve quality of life, and ensure that everyone affected by hearing loss can stay connected to the people and communities that matter most.

That’s why we’re hosting Living with Hearing Loss — a welcoming community event offering practical advice, emotional support, and opportunities to connect with others on a similar journey.

Whether you’ve just started noticing changes in your hearing or have been living with hearing loss for some time, this event will help you discover useful strategies, local support, and new ways to communicate with confidence.

What to Expect

  • 🎤 Keynote from NHS Audiology – learn more about hearing loss and where to find help
  • 🗣️ Interactive breakout sessions:
    • Lipreading Taster – practical techniques for everyday communication
    • BSL Taster – learn basic British Sign Language signs and phrases
    • Better Conversations – communication tips for family and friends
  • 🎧 Technology demonstrations – try hearing loops, sound games, and assistive equipment
  • 💬 Information stalls – meet NHS teams, local charities, and community organisations
  • 👂 HISS Service – free 5-minute hearing checks (not a full test) and hearing aid support

…I was very satisfied with the service. The two staff were professional and easy to communicate with. They were able to explain everything clearly and quickly gave me the replacement equipment.
